Split is one of the great Mediterranean cities, modern and traditional at the same time. The second largest city in Croatia, a major seaport, and the center of Dalmatia province, it offers tasty fresh seafood, local wines, unique shops, and fascinating landmarks.
What makes it unique is the 3rd-century palace of Roman emperor Diocletian, forming the core of the town. Roman square, emperor’s mausoleum and cellars, Roman temple, famous Golden gates and so much more wait to be discovered. You can combine it with any location from the list.
The palace is just 180 x 200 meters, with lots of narrow streets inside, like a labyrinth. To see a few locations outside the old palace, it all together about 1,5 kilometers.
Usually, the tour includes steps, but the route can be adjusted to avoid challenging parts.
A walking tour of Split lasts about 2 hours. It begins on the main promenade, Riva, at any time of the day. We navigate through narrow passages in the old town core, passing by the most important historical landmarks. The tour ends at the northern exit of the palace. It is common to combine this tour with a visit to the medieval town of Trogir, the Roman and early Christian remains in the ancient Salona, or the Klis fortress with its stunning viewpoint. If you decide so, a transfer and licensed guide is provided, and that kind of tour lasts about 5 hours.
